Today is the first day of Reconciliation Week. To begin the important week, we all came together to give an acknowledgement of country. We had a yarn about the importance of the week, what it means and how we can continue to practice reconciliation all throughout the year.
The children were able to develop an understanding of, and respect for their community, specifically Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, explore the perspectives of others, and consider how their actions can influence others. The children were able to practice their communication skills through taking turns to both read the acknowledgement and share their opinions about the week and reconciliation moving forward. The children naturally focused on the importance of treating everyone with kindness, always, something that we value strongly all year round at Mayfield.
