This afternoon the children and the educator worked together to create a poster for Reconciliation Week and to acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as well as connect with their communities and engage them to learn more about the culture. Using the knowledge they learnt from the conversation we had about Reconciliation this morning, they planned and painted their poster. We then put this poster up on the wall to get children interested and start the conversation between the children and the educators. This was a great way to kick off Reconciliation Week.
This activity went really well, the children involved were very excited to be able to create a poster and were actively involved in the process of deciding and putting their plan into action. We also discussed some of the things we had spoken about in the Reconciliation chat this morning, most of the children weren't there for that conversation, so we were able to start another conversation about what Reconciliation Week means, the children were very engaged in this discussion and we were able to use some of the things we spoke about on our poster.
