We have decided to make some social stories to help us understand our different routines. We discussed our routines, the steps in each of these routines, and how best to capture each step in an image. We then held a photo shoot to capture the images.
Throughout the activity the children developed their communication skills, practised experimentation and problem solved, as they discussed, planned and executed their ideas in order to clearly communicate their message to others.
In reviewing the photos taken, common comments from the children were, "will people understand this photo?" and "will people understand what we mean?".
After some unclear first attempts, the children used their problem solving skills and made a decision to narrow the focus of the photos to avoid distractions in the background. More consideration was also made of facial expressions, and body positioning in order to communicate a clear message.
